Our History

A Brief History of our League

Wichita, today known as the Air Capital of the World, began its first airline service in 1925, offering its 91,000 citizens one flight daily to Kansas City. In February of that year, ten charter members started Junior League of Wichita by inviting 31 women to join as provisional members, establishing the 78th Junior League.

Thousands of women have served the greater Wichita area as volunteers with Junior League of Wichita. These women represent all walks of life with the common goals of serving the community and developing their potential as women. The projects the League has taken on change with the changing needs of the community, and today the League’s focus is on combating child abuse.
