Focus Area
Empowering Women to be Safe, Smart and Successful.
We are proud of our history of stepping up to meet Wichita’s biggest challenges.
Throughout our 100 years, Junior League has focused on several issues, including health services for children, literacy, food insecurity, tourism in Wichita, and more. We have helped drive and fund city initiatives such as the “Pride of the Plains” exhibit at the Sedgwick County Zoo and Heritage Square Park outside the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum. In 2011, the League began focusing its efforts on countering child abuse in Wichita, and this initiaive lasted for nearly 14 years. One of the League’s most significant contributions during this time was a 2013 partnership with the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County, during which the League funded construction of the training wing in its new facility.
As of 2024, Junior League of Wichita adopted a new focus area. Today, the League is committed to working with our community to empower women to be safe, smart and successful.
- Safe – We connect women with mental health support; freedom from domestic violence; and resources for childcare, housing, jobs, and healthcare.
- Smart – We help build financial literacy, healthy relationships, and scholarships for finishing education.
- Successful – We promote professional development, mentorship, and interview skills; and developing an elevator pitch.
