Honoring Our Past, Celebrating Our Present, Investing In Our Future

Junior League of Wichita (JLW) was founded in January 1925 by a group of nine young women passionate about making a difference. When a League member learned of a friend’s struggle to stay with her sick child while being treated at a hospital far from home, JLW addressed this problem for Kansans by building two Ronald McDonald Houses in Wichita in 1981. Wanting to ensure that all Wichita women had access to mammograms regardless of ability to pay and to advance the cause of breast cancer research, JLW brought the Race for the Cure to our community in 1990, which continues to this day. Recognizing the value of the number one tourist attraction in Kansas, JLW created a volunteer system for the Sedgwick County Zoo and donated the Pride of the Plains exhibit in 1999. Working with USD 259 and its effort to improve the health and hygiene of its students, JLW worked at Colvin Elementary in 1994, translating our materials into several languages to make the program accessible to all families. More recently, JLW partnered with the Child Advocacy Center to streamline and maximize services for child abuse victims and looks forward to providing child abuse prevention through its collaboration with the Wichita Children’s Home.

Junior League of Wichita is an organization of nearly 800 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Junior League of Wichita welcomes all women who value our Mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations and communities. Currently, Junior League of Wichita works with the community to combat child abuse through awareness, prevention and intervention.
