Sample Bequest Language
Bequests are gifts made through a will or trust and can be made in several ways: a specific dollar amount, a specific percentage of your estate, or all or part of what remains after provisions have been made to other beneficiaries.
Bequests permit you to retain full control of your assets during your lifetime while also providing the satisfaction of knowing that, ultimately; assets not needed for family purposes will be directed to a designated organization (i.e. Junior League of Wichita). Importantly, bequests are fully deductible for estate tax purposes. Sample bequest language is provided below:
Specific bequest (either dollar amount or percentage)
- Sample language: I hereby give, devise and bequeath the sum of $_____________ (or ___% of my estate) to Junior League of Wichita (TIN 48-0556729), a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization, currently located at 6402 East 12th Street, Wichita, KS 67206-1306.
Residuary bequest: Allows you to designate all or part of the assets remaining in your estate to Junior League of Wichita after debts, expenses, and specific bequests have been paid.
- Sample language: I hereby give, devise and bequeath ___% of the residue of my estate to Junior League of Wichita (TIN 48-0556729), a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization, currently located at 6402 East 12th Street, Wichita, KS 67206-1306.
It may be helpful to know that Junior League of Wichita can easily be added to your existing will through an amendment called a codicil; thus your will does not have to be redrafted.
