2000s

  • The JLW project “Share a Story: A KPTS Reading Initiative,” which spanned from 2003 to 2006, donated $64,000 and more than 1,000 volunteer hours toward encouraging Wichita Public Schools children to read.

  • Continuing with the literacy involvement, in 2007 JLW collaborated with Wichita Public Library and Wichita Public Schools to complete a project called Reading Rocks: Literacy for Lifelong Learning. The investment of $60,000 impacted about 1,300 elementary-aged students.
  • In 2011, JLW voted to become issue-based, focusing its efforts on one area of community need. The League chose to focus on combating child abuse, and in 2012 the League’s first two child abuse-related projects consisted of building a community website with information about child abuse and performing a puppet show about child abuse issues to area school children.
